What is Apple Business? The change from April 2026

Apple Business is Apple's company portal: legal-entity enrolment, device assignment, managed accounts and free basic device management. From 14 April 2026 Apple combined its older portals into this one platform. Vietnamese businesses still need a separate MDM for tiered locks, VietQR, VAT invoices and Vietnamese-language operations.

What Apple Business includes

Apple Business is the single company portal: legal-entity enrolment, Apple accounts the company manages, device assignment, app purchases and free basic device management. The address is still business.apple.com.

On 14 April 2026 Apple launched this portal in more than 200 countries and regions, including Vietnam. Companies now use one account for work that used to sit on several portals.

Free basic device management lets you assign devices and send some commands. A shop that needs tiered locks, VietQR and branch permissions still connects an MDM such as ABMDM. ABMDM features lists what the paid MDM layer adds.

What changed in April 2026

Before that date, companies knew Apple Business Manager for device and app enrolment. From 14 April 2026 Apple merged that portal with two other company portals into Apple Business. The old name is mentioned only here so you can match older documents.

Apple stated the new platform is free for new and existing users. Customers who previously paid Apple for device management were no longer charged that management fee after the switch.

On the first sign-in after the switch, Apple may ask you to accept new terms. The person in charge should sign in early so the account is not left hanging.

What Vietnamese companies still have to do themselves

Apple's portal does not issue Vietnamese VAT invoices, send 7am–9pm payment reminders, apply tiered locks when an instalment is overdue, or show VietQR on the lock screen.

ABMDM does that work on devices already in Apple Business. New devices enrol at power-on after you upload the connection token. The step-by-step guides start at portal registration and go through connecting ABMDM.

If you have no account yet, read how to register for Apple Business. ABMDM offers a filing service at 13,000,000 VND covering the file, D-U-N-S, verification and the connection to ABMDM.

Connecting Apple Business to a paid MDM

In Apple Business, add a device-management server, download the connection token, and upload it to ABMDM. Set ABMDM as the default server for new devices.

Devices bought through a business reseller are assigned by serial. Retail-bought devices are added with Apple Configurator on iPhone, then assigned to the same server.

After you connect, check status in ABMDM before you hand out devices in bulk. One test device that powers on, receives configuration, and accepts lock/unlock is enough to trust the path.

When free management is enough, and when you need ABMDM

Use free basic management when you have few devices, you do not lock for overdue payments, you do not need an accounting API, and the person in charge can work in English on Apple's portal.

You need ABMDM when you sell on instalments, lease devices, run several branches, want Zalo alerts, need VAT invoices and per-device pricing in VND. Starter is 150,000 VND per device per six months; Professional is 100,000 VND per device per six months plus a 6,650,000 VND activation fee.

Apple Business is the foundation. A paid MDM is the operations layer. Without the foundation, devices do not enrol themselves. Without the operations layer, the shop watches every device by hand.

What to do in the first week

After approval, name two roles: the Apple portal administrator (usually the owner or chief accountant) and the person who runs devices day to day (shop manager or IT). Do not share one personal email for both.

Invite the operator with a company account. Download the public key from ABMDM, add the device-management server, upload the token, and set it as the default for new devices. Do this on one test device first: power on, see configuration, send lock then unlock.

Record the test serial, the connection date and who did the work. Use the same process when you enrol in bulk. Drift usually means the default server was not set, or the serial is not in Apple Business yet.

Company accounts and personal data

Apple Business allows Apple accounts the organisation manages, with company data kept apart from personal data on the device. That does not let a shop read an employee's photos. MDM still cannot open messages, the photo library or passwords.

When an employee leaves, recover the company device, wipe it remotely if you cannot collect it, and remove their access on the portal. For a personal device with written consent, remove management in the scope you signed — do not keep location access after the employment ends.

Location is viewed only in Lost Mode or when a contract is overdue, and every access is logged — under Law 91/2025/QH15 and Decree 356/2025/ND-CP.

Apple's portal is not your customer contract

Apple Business is not an instalment contract and not accounting software. If a customer owes money, Apple's portal does not lock the phone by itself. The shop still writes the contract, cites Civil Code Article 453 (title until paid in full), the consent clause for management, and the 7am–9pm reminder window.

When the customer pays off, the operator removes management or moves the device to a settled state in the MDM process. Do not leave a paid-off phone still showing the company name on setup — the next buyer will think it is “stuck in MDM”.

Apple's portal holds serials that belong to the organisation. Contracts and payment schedules live in the MDM and your sales software. Connect the API if you already have a contract system; ABMDM includes the API on the lowest plan.

Frequently asked questions

Does Apple Business Manager still work?

The old portal name is only for matching old paperwork. From 14 April 2026 Apple merged it into Apple Business. Sign in at business.apple.com and accept the new terms if the system asks.

Is free device management in Apple Business enough for a shop?

It is enough if you only need to assign devices and send a few basic commands. Shops on instalments or leases, or shops that need VietQR, tiered locks and VAT invoices, usually connect a paid MDM as well.

Can a Vietnamese company register for Apple Business?

Yes. You need a legal entity, an email on the company domain and a D-U-N-S number. Apple calls a person with authority before approval.

If we already had the old portal, do we register again?

No. The account moves to Apple Business. On the first sign-in after the switch, read and accept the new terms.

Does ABMDM replace Apple Business?

No. Apple Business is Apple's portal. ABMDM is the MDM you connect to that portal to send commands, push configuration and run device financing.
