Can a household business use Apple Business Manager?
Apple does not say clearly whether a household business (hộ kinh doanh) can register for Apple Business: its guidance pages have no field for legal form. This article covers the three usual worries, D-U-N-S, email and legal-entity status, using only what Apple and Vietnamese official sources state, then outlines three routes. Where it is unclear, ask Apple or ABMDM.
Can a household business sign up for Apple Business?
Apple does not say clearly. The Apple Business guidance pages we read on 2 November 2026 have no field for legal form, so no sentence says "a household business can" or "a household business cannot". Apple reviews each application, and nobody except Apple, ABMDM included, can guarantee the result in advance.
Shop owners usually worry about three things: a D-U-N-S number, email, and legal-entity status. Below we take them one by one, stating only what has a source and saying plainly where Apple is silent.
Do you need a D-U-N-S number to be accepted?
Not necessarily. Apple's sign-up page lets you choose one option for the first verification method: a Business ID (D-U-N-S or EIN), domain verification, an official document (for example a business licence), or App Store Connect; you then add a second method of a different type. So D-U-N-S is one choice, not the only requirement (Apple: Sign up for Apple Business).
Apple does not say whether Dun & Bradstreet in Vietnam records a household business as an entity. If you want to go the D-U-N-S route, how to look up and request a number is covered in what a D-U-N-S number is.
One common mix-up: Apple Developer's D-U-N-S page is about the Developer Program, where an individual owner should enrol as an individual. That page says it applies only to the Developer Program and does not mention Apple Business, so do not carry it over to Apple Business (Apple Developer: D-U-N-S Number).
Does a household business need an email on its own domain?
Not for the first administrator. Apple allows a public email provider if the organisation has no domain of its own. What Apple requires is an address that has never been used as an Apple Account and is not tied to the App Store or iCloud, and an applicant who enters a real person's name rather than a job title or team name (Apple: Requirements for Apple Business).
With your own domain you gain another way to verify: add a TXT record, within 14 days. The domain must not already be verified by another Apple organisation (Apple: Add and verify a domain). An email on your shop's domain is still a tidy option, but on Apple's page it is a choice, not a condition.
Is a household business ruled out for not being a legal entity?
Apple does not say clearly. Apple uses the word "organization" and does not define whether it must be a legal entity.
On the Vietnamese side: a household business is registered by an individual or by members of a household, and the head of the household is liable with all their assets. Under the decree on business registration in force from 1 July 2025, the household business registration certificate is also its tax registration certificate, the household business number is printed on it, and the name consists of "Hộ kinh doanh" plus a proper name (full text of the decree on chinhphu.vn). An article on the government portal, citing the tax authority, states that a household business is not a legal entity while a company such as a limited liability company is (chinhphu.vn: when to move from a household business to a company).
Putting the two sides together: according to that source a household business is not a legal entity, and Apple does not say whether legal-entity status is a condition. So the answer is "unclear", not "yes" or "no".
What should you do if you are a household business?
Three routes, from lightest to heaviest:
- Prepare matching documents and try the application: the household business registration certificate with the name exactly as written on it, your shop website, an email never tied to an Apple Account, and your real name as applicant. Apple lets you upload an official document as one verification method, but its examples are a business licence, a lease and a utility bill; Apple does not say whether a household business registration certificate is accepted.
- Ask Apple first if you want certainty, because only Apple can answer for your legal form. You can also ask ABMDM to look at your documents before you submit.
- If the application is rejected or you need certainty, consider setting up a company (a legal entity per the government source above) and then registering. That is your choice, not something Apple requires.
On timing: Apple says verification can take about 5 working days, and if the application is not approved within 60 days of sign-up, the organisation and its data are deleted. Submit once your documents are complete.
The form steps and the verification call are in how to register for Apple Business. If you want someone to check the documents for you, see the Apple Business registration service.
What Apple does not say clearly
- Whether a household business or sole proprietor can sign up for Apple Business.
- Whether an "organization" must be a legal entity.
- Whether Dun & Bradstreet in Vietnam treats a household business as a legal entity.
- Any minimum size or number of devices.
On these points, ask Apple or ABMDM rather than guess.
