Becoming an MDM reseller: costs and sub-store billing

Becoming an MDM reseller means preparing the per-device software fee, an Apple Business account, a test device, a support person and tax and accounting. ABMDM publishes no general capital figure and reseller pricing is by contact. The system does not collect from sub-stores: you set your price, agree a contract and reconcile the device list every month.

What do you need to prepare to become an MDM software reseller?

There are five groups of costs, but ABMDM does not publish a general capital figure, so this article gives none. Real capital depends on the number of sub-stores, the number of devices and how you collect. Reseller pricing is not published; contact ABMDM for a quote under a contract.

  • Per-device software fee. Wholesale pricing depends on the total number of devices in the system. For comparison, the public retail price is VND 17,000 per device per month before VAT, with a 30-day minimum per device; annual payment is 20% lower. Details are in MDM software pricing.
  • An Apple Business account. If you do not have one, you need your legal-entity documents and, optionally, a registration service (contact us for a quote). See the next section.
  • Money advanced for sub-stores. If you pay the software fee first and collect from sub-stores later, that time gap is your working capital. This is an operating choice, not a requirement of the programme.
  • A test device and a support person. One test device to check power-on, lock and unlock before handing over to a sub-store, and someone to answer when sub-stores ask.
  • Tax and accounting. Invoices and VAT between you and sub-stores: ask your accountant. This article is not tax advice.

What the reseller programme gives you (many sub-stores, your own pricing, a Zalo support group) is on the ABMDM partners page. This article covers only money and preparation.

Does a reseller need Apple Business?

Yes, if you want devices to enrol automatically when switched on. Devices bought through the business channel have their serial numbers in the organisation's Apple Business account, so they connect to the management service on their own; Apple calls this Automated Device Enrollment (Apple documentation). Devices bought outside that channel are added with Apple Configurator on an iPhone, following the guide to adding devices bought elsewhere.

If you do not have an account yet, register with your own legal entity: see how to register for Apple Business. Or use the ABMDM registration service; contact us for a quote.

One thing to ask when you get a quote: whether your sub-stores share the reseller's Apple Business account or each has its own. This article does not claim either way, because it depends on how you buy devices and on your contract with each store.

How do sub-stores pay the reseller?

This is agreed between you and the sub-store. ABMDM lets a reseller set the price applied to its sub-stores and gives a payment confirmation for each payment made to ABMDM. The system does not collect money from sub-stores on your behalf, and this article does not promise that feature.

A simple approach is to fix four things in writing before the first device is handed over:

  1. The unit price per device per period that you charge the sub-store.
  2. When billing starts and ends: the day a device enters the system and the day it leaves.
  3. Payment deadline and method: bank transfer or VietQR, with the store's name in the transfer note.
  4. What happens when a sub-store pays late: who reminds, when, and whether support is paused.

Do not set the sub-store price below what you owe. Wholesale pricing is not published, so have the contract quote in hand before you work out a resale price.

What a reseller–sub-store contract should say

  • Legal names of both parties, representatives and contact phone numbers.
  • A list of devices by serial number and the date each entered the system.
  • A scope limited to features that exist today. Items marked Coming soon on the features page (silent app install, locking an iPad to one app, DDM) stay out of the commitments. Only iPhone and iPad are supported at present.
  • Who is responsible to the end customer: the sub-store remains the place where the instalment contract is signed, so the phone number on the lock screen is that store's.
  • How the arrangement ends and what happens to the devices if the sub-store stops working with you.

This is a suggested structure, not a legal template. Have a lawyer or a qualified person review it before signing.

Reconcile every month so the money does not drift

Each month, use the overview dashboard and the Excel export to compare against the serial list in each sub-store's contract. Two places often drift: a device still in the system keeps being billed by the day, so a device that is no longer under a sub-store's contract can still generate a charge; and a device the customer has fully paid for but that has not been marked as settled in the reseller's contract.

Keep the payment confirmation for every payment you make to ABMDM and a receipt for every payment a sub-store makes to you. To ask about wholesale pricing or contract terms, call 0913 081 986 (8am–9pm every day) or leave your number on the partners page.

Frequently asked questions

How much capital do I need to become an MDM reseller?

ABMDM does not publish a single capital figure. It depends on the number of sub-stores, the number of devices and whether you pay software fees up front on their behalf. Reseller pricing is not published; contact ABMDM for a quote under a contract.

Does a reseller have to have Apple Business?

You need it if you want devices to enrol automatically when switched on. If you do not have an account, register with your own legal entity or use the ABMDM registration service; contact us for a quote.

Does the system collect money from sub-stores automatically?

No. The reseller sets the price for sub-stores and agrees the collection method with them. Each payment to ABMDM comes with a payment confirmation.

Can a reseller set prices for sub-stores?

Yes. The reseller sets the price applied to its own sub-stores, so keep your selling price at or above what you pay.

Can devices bought outside the business channel be managed?

Yes. Add them with Apple Configurator on an iPhone and assign them to ABMDM. Devices bought through the business channel enrol automatically when switched on.
